D Day and other tidings

Well, today was the big day. D day for us.

Deployment Day.

I dropped my husband off at the airport this morning not exactly sure what day we will be seeing him again. It is a hard day and the next few weeks will be hard as my children and I make the adjustment.

August has been a rough month for our household. With me recovering, the passing of my father-in-law, deployment day,my college stuff being delayed, and an awful WWE style brawl that our neighbors decided to throw last night, complete with cops being called, I am ready to see August finished!

That is not to say that is has been all bad. There were some very good points to this month.

I was offered a chance to try out a new line of products before they hit the shelves or online stores.

gym angel

Gym Angel by controlled labs is a complete line of supplements and I am finding myself very impressed with the quality of this line. The ingredients are very natural, not only can I pronounce the names of all of the ingredients, I can identify the purpose of each component in each product. This is very important to me as I am very aware and conscience of what I am taking.

The line consists of a protein powder, I got Chocolate Doughnut flavor, multi-vitamin, fish oil, pre-workout (mango flavor) , fat burner, and a detox pill. The protein powder has 20g of protein, only 3g from sugars, and is 103 calories. That is some great numbers and compares well to my previous protein powder. Plus, it tastes amazing. It mixes well in water (i use 6oz) and there is no chalky or bad after taste with this. It is very smooth, like drinking a milk shake!

I am very pleased with this line and will write more about it in a few weeks as I continue to take it and see what happens. Plus they sent me a t-shirt! Of course I had to wear it when I taught spin class, so had to take a selfie. Besides, if you still look cute after spin, you aren’t riding hard enough!

Also, you might have noticed ye ole’ Blog is having a little makeover. I have decided to make the whole thing into its own site with more content to come. The blog will still be here, it will just be under the blog tab section instead of on the front page. I am working with it so if you are seeing multiple changes, bear with me. Eventually I will get it right.

The Name Game and a few updates…

Since I started this blog, I have had a few people ask why I named it Bikinis and Biceps.

The first part is easy. I am slightly obsessed with bikinis. I like how colorful and fun they are! That’s 15 tops and 16 bottoms and that doesn’t include competition bikinis!

Many times they evoke fear as “bikini season” comes around every year and people start their workout routine for summer cuts. Everyone wants to look good in a bikini. It has almost become its own status symbol, with the tabloids proudly proclaiming which celebrity has the best, and worst, bikini body. But really, bikini bodies are made year round, not just a few months out each year.

The goal is to continually work to build the best physique you can, and not to wait until a few months and then try to force the body to respond quickly and then once again drop the ball during winter.

Not only that, but I choose to compete in the Bikini Division. That seems to be the look my body is naturally suited for and also happens to fit my personality. I love the look of the figure and body building ladies, but it is pretty clear that I am not growing up to be one of them. So choosing the Bikini portion of the name was easy.

The Biceps portion of the name I think throws people off the most. It happens to be the body part that I have found is the hardest to grow on me and it is one of the parts that people like to point to as a measure of how “fit” you are. If you have strong arms and a nice pair of “guns” then of course you must workout. I am trying to build up my biceps, look like I lift, and look good in a teeny tiny bikini.

Really the name is a reflection of the things I am trying to accomplish and the the things I am passionate about.

A fun update to end this post:

I got new toys!!!

New functional trainer and leg extension/leg curl machine to add to the free weights in my home studio. This opens up a lot of possibilities for my building phase and I cant wait to get back to training.

Also, surgery day went well and I am back on the road to recovery. I see the Doc on Thursday and hopefully get cleared for more lifting activities. Here is a quick pic to show progress on that front and I will be taking more progress pics in about a month.
